their unpaired fins, and two or three contact organs on the margin of each lateral body scale. Specimens were collected from cascading clear-water mountain streams, pH 6.5, temperature 21.5-24 C. Rivulus magdalenae, which the new species somewhat resembles, and R. bondi also fit Parenti's "Rivulus" definition, but R. waimacui, R. cryptocallus, and R. deltaphilus are confounding.
