An overdose death from ecstasy (MDMA) is reported on the Internet. It is believed that the high blood concentration of MDMA in the deceased's body was caused by an interaction with ritonavir, making the liver unable to break down MDMA. Abbott Laboratories in England reports that approximately 3 to 10 percent of the population will poorly metabolize MDMA, increasing the drug levels in such individuals by 5- to 10-fold.
