Abstract Interest in parasitoids has grown with the recognition that host-parasitoid systems offer opportunities to examine fundamental questions in behavioural and evolutionary ecology. Tachinid flies of the Ormiini possess a conspicuously inflated prosternal region, enabling them to detect the mating songs of their hosts.
