The present study investigated the retinal and choroidal expression of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) in myopia and in myopia recovery in a guinea pig model. For this investigation, two groups of guinea pigs, lens‑induced myopia and recovery from myopia, were used, and defocused myopia was induced the guinea pigs wearing ‑4.00 D lenses on the right eyes for 3 weeks, with the left eyes serving as the contralateral. In the following week, the lenses of the guinea pigs in the recovery group…
Altered Expression of GJD2 Messenger RNA and the Coded Protein Connexin 36 in Negative Lens–induced Myopia of Guinea Pigs
TLDR
Investigation of the changes in GJD2 mRNA and Cx36 protein expression in the guinea pig lens-induced myopia model suggests their involvement in local retinal circuits regulating eye growth points to retinalcircuits involving Cx 36 in myopia development in the Guinea pig.
The RPE in Myopia Development
TLDR
Results of recent RPE studies are summarized, including RPE-derived growth factors, neurotransmitters and their receptors, ion channels, and RPE morphological changes in the context of eye growth regulation and myopia development are summarized.
Multi-scale Modeling of Vision-Guided Remodeling and Age-Dependent Growth of the Tree Shrew Sclera During Eye Development and Lens-Induced Myopia
TLDR
A multi-scale computational model is proposed to simulate eye development based on the assumption that scleral growth is controlled by genetic factors while sCleral remodeling is driven by genetic Factors and the eye’s refractive error, and is the first model that distinguishes sclal growth from remodeling.
Modeling Myopia in Guinea Pigs
TLDR
Guinea pigs have emerged as a popular mammalian model because of the relative ease of housing and husbandry, larger eyes, and better visual acuity compared to other laboratory rodents, but the nature of the defocus stimuli and their effects on retinal image quality are still unknown.
Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 in Development and Bone Homeostasis
TLDR
The structure of BMP-2, its activation and regulation signaling pathways, B MP-2 clinical applications, and limitations of using BMP -2 as a therapeutic are focused on.
SWATH Based Quantitative Proteomics Reveals Significant Lipid Metabolism in Early Myopic Guinea Pig Retina
TLDR
This study serves as the first report to detect and confirm novel retinal protein changes and significant biological functions in the early LIM mammalian guinea pigs through an integrated discovery and targeted proteomic approach.
The Influence of Genetics in Myopia Control: A Pilot Study
TLDR
The result of lens therapies for myopia control could vary depending on genetic variants, and significant differences were found between the rs235770…rs1881492 and rs23 5770–rs1656404 polymorphisms.

Expression of bFGF and TGF-beta 2 in experimental myopia in chicks.
TLDR
These results are consistent with the possibility that bFGF and TGF-beta 2 regulate ocular enlargement or respond to myopiagenic mechanisms in form-deprivation myopia.
Altered TGF-β2 and bFGF expression in scleral desmocytes from an experimentally-induced myopia guinea pig model
TLDR
During myopia development in lens-induced guinea pigs, the increase in TGF-β2 activity of scleral desmocytes initiated at the posterior pole, while that of bFGF exerts an indirect role in myopiadevelopment.
Role of bone morphogenetic proteins in form-deprivation myopia sclera
TLDR
BMP-2 might be able to promote HSF proliferation and differentiation, as well as to help extracellular matrix synthesis potentially through classical Smad pathway.
Bidirectional, optical sign-dependent regulation of BMP2 gene expression in chick retinal pigment epithelium.
TLDR
Investigating the role of bone morphogenic protein 2 in defocus-induced ocular growth using gene expression changes in RPE as a surrogate suggested a role for BMP2 in eye growth regulation, although the diffuse ocular expression of B MP2 and its receptors suggests complex growth-modulatory signal pathways.
Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor Suppresses Retinal Neuronal Apoptosis in Form-Deprivation Myopia in Chicks
TLDR
Exogenous bFGF effectively ameliorates the excessive axial elongation and retinal neuron apoptosis in chronic form-deprivation myopia in chicks and it is possible that bF GF will be a promising therapeutic agent for high human myopia.
Expressions of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin in sclera of guinea pig with defocus myopia and inhibitory effects of bFGF on the formation of myopia.
TLDR
It was found that the monocular -7D lens could decrease the levels of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin expressions, while, unlike PBS, bFGF increased them significantly in comparison to contralateral control eyes and normal eyes.
Gene expression signatures in tree shrew choroid during lens-induced myopia and recovery.
Scleral remodeling during the development of and recovery from axial myopia in the tree shrew.
TLDR
Active remodeling, resulting in either the loss or replacement of scleral tissue and not passive redistribution of sCleral tissue, is associated with changes in eye size during both myopia development and recovery.
Chondrogenesis in scleral stem/progenitor cells and its association with form-deprived myopia in mice
TLDR
Based on the concept of stem cells possessing multipotent differentiation potentials, scleral chondrogenesis induced by SSPCs may play a role in myopia development.
