A consistent method for grouping of catastrophic and noncatastrophic interactions in mixed Monte Carlo schemes has been developed. Energy-loss straggling between discrete catastrophic energy losses is taken into account by sampling from a restricted energy straggling distribution derived from the energy loss theory of Vavilov applied on the interaction cross section of Moller.
