Lake Yuriria, located in the heavily populated and polluted Mexican Central Plateau, receives domestic sewage, industrial effluents, and municipal wastewaters that are still directly discharged without treatment into the tributaries and the lake. Pollutants in water and sediments include heavy metals, aromatic hydrocarbons, and organochlorine pesticides. Activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), as well as Na+/K+-adenosine…

The findings of the present investigation suggest that the presence of certain prooxidative compounds that can lead to oxidative stress in the fish at the Sitilce site and oxidative stress biomarkers may be important in order to evaluate the effects of untreated wastewaters on living organisms in the dam lake.

Effect of untreated sewage water on antioxidant enzymes of fish Labeo rohita

The unregulated discharge of untreated municipal sewage water to the natural water bodies is a major threat to the aquatic ecosystems. In the present study, the fingerlings of Labeo rohita were

EFFECTS OF AGRO-CHEMICALS ON ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES AND LIPID PEROXIDATION IN OREOCHROMIS MOSSAMBICUS AND LABEO ROHITA

It can be concluded that the response of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx, and GST) and non-enzymatic antioxidant/scavengers showed that the both the teleost are under severe OS and that the agro-chemicals are acting as potent free radicals generators.

Studies on the oxidative stress and gill histopathology in Channa punctatus of the canal receiving heavy metal-loaded effluent of Kasimpur Thermal Power Plant

It is demonstrated that wastewater/effluent released from thermal power plant containing heavy metals has strong potential to affect the physicochemical properties of the water and well-being of aquatic living organisms.

Changes in the life-cycle parameters and glutathione-related antioxidant defense system of rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus under the combined stress of microcystin-LR and ammonia

The physiological and ecological responses of Brachionus calyciflorus Pallas to microcystin-LR and ammonia stresses were evaluated and the life-cycle parameters were related to the effects of microcyStin- LR and ammonia on the GSH-related antioxidant defense system of rotifers.

State of the antioxidant system in Danio rerio fish due to the chlorpyrifos intoxication

The article presents the results of studies of acute intoxication in Danio Rerio fish by chlorpyrifos at concentrations 0.5 mg/L; 0.75 mg/L and 1 mg/L of aquarium water for 24 h and its influence on

Labeo rohita, a bioindicator for water quality and associated biomarkers of heavy metal toxicity

This study investigated the effect of heavy metals on Labeo rohita inhabiting the Yamuna River, India. Levels of heavy metals measured in the water were as follows: Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu>Ni>Cr>Cd. Gill and

Assessment of impact of environmental pollutants on gonad (testis) of Clarias gariepinus from Wazirabad barrage and Okhla barrage of river Yamuna in Delhi segment highlighted the existence of greater prooxidative compounds at the exit site resulting in stressful condition for fish in river basin.

Relative toxicity of cigarette butts leachate and usefulness of antioxidant biomarker activity in Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Trewavas, 1983)

Relative acute toxicity of cigarette butts leachate, antioxidant biomarkers; superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), gluthathione (GSH)activity and lipid peroxidation (LPO), an index of

Enzymatic Biomarker Measurement and Study on Pollution-induced Antioxidant Enzymes Responses in Freshwater Fish Liver, Brocarded Carp

The results demonstrated that the activities of liver antioxidant enzyme in Brocarded Carp might be the promising biomarker of M-DNB exposure, and it was suggested that SOD, GPx and CAT could be used as biomarkers of nitroaromatics compounds, when their pollutions affected living beings in aquatic environment.

Antioxidative role of selenium against the toxic effect of heavy metals (Cd+2, Cr+3) on liver of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum 1792)

The result of the statistical evaluation showed that the negative effects occurring in the biochemical parameters of the applied groups exposed to the toxicity of heavy metal were significantly eliminated as a result of selenium treatment.

An Investigation of Antioxidant Enzymes Activities in Liver of Cyprinus carpio Taken from Different Stations in the Karakaya Dam Lake

In this study, we examined the activity of the antioxidant enzymes such as Catalase (CAT), Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in liver of Cyprinus carpio that has

Effect of Endosulfan on Antioxidants of Freshwater Fish Channa punctatus Bloch: 1. Protection Against Lipid Peroxidation in Liver by Copper Preexposure

It is demonstrated that endosulfan induces peroxidative damage in liver, kidney, and gill in response to which levels of antioxidant were modulated, and it is proposed that measurement of antioxidants in fish tissues may prove to be useful in biomonitoring of exposure to aquatic pollutants.
