The response to the muscarinic agonists acetylcholine and methacholine was tested in the gastric fundus of rats of 2.5, 12 and 24 months. There was no non-specific age-related change in the reactivity of the rat gastric fundus, as the contractile response to potassium chloride was similar in the three age groups. There was a slightly decreased response to acetylcholine with increasing age, but the differences did not reach statistical significance.
