The sample covariance based (SCB) minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer has desirable properties under ideal homogeneous data conditions with perfect look. Such properties include maximum-likelihood optimality yielding an unbiased asymptotically efficient estimate of the signal parameter.
