Resource Aware Pricing for Electric Vehicle Charging

title={Resource Aware Pricing for Electric Vehicle Charging},
author={Cesar Santoyo and Gustav Nilsson and Samuel D. Coogan},
Electric vehicle charging facilities offer electric charge and parking to users for a fee. Both parking availability and electric charge capacity are constrained resources, and as the demand for charging facilities grows with increasing electric vehicle adoption, so too does the potential for exceeding these resource limitations. In this paper, we study how prices set by the charging facility impact the likelihood that resource constraints are exceeded. Specifically, we present probabilistic…

Sensitivity of Electric Vehicle Charging Facility Occupancy to Users’ Impatience
In this paper, we consider an electric vehicle charging facility that offers various levels of service, i.e., charging rates, for varying prices such that rational users choose a level of service
Pricing Parameter Design for Electric Vehicle Charging
An approximate chance-constrained optimization program is proposed that enables charging facility operators to set the pricing model parameters in an anticipatory, rather than a reactionary, manner.
Sensitivity to User Mischaracterizations in Electric Vehicle Charging
How the facility operator might design prices such that the expected occupancy does not vary much under small changes in the distribution of a user’s impatience, variable and limited user service needs, or uncharacterized early departure, quantities which are generally difficult to characterize accurately from data is demonstrated.

Discount-Based Pricing and Capacity Planning for EV Charging Under Stochastic Demand
This paper looks at a class of parameterized static pricing functions that incentivize EV users to provide the aggregators with longer deadlines, to avoid having to charge each EV at the peak kW rate.
Pricing and Routing Mechanisms for Differentiated Services in an Electric Vehicle Public Charging Station Network
This work considers a Charging Network Operator (CNO) that owns a network of Electric Vehicle (EV) public charging stations and wishes to offer a menu of differentiated service options for access to its stations, and designs pricing-routing policies that ensure users reveal their true parameters to the CNO.
Retail and Wholesale Electricity Pricing Considering Electric Vehicle Mobility
This paper provides retail pricing mechanisms and iterative wholesale market-clearing algorithms that together maximize social welfare in this coupled system and would enable the CNO to reduce its electricity costs and the customers’ travel delays and the ISO to reduce societal electricity costs by tapping into the EVs’ flexibility as mobile electric loads.
Optimal decentralized protocol for electric vehicle charging
A decentralized algorithm to optimally schedule electric vehicle (EV) charging as an optimal control problem, whose objective is to impose a generalized notion of valley-filling, and study properties of optimal charging profiles.
Electric vehicle scheduling and optimal charging problem: complexity, exact and heuristic approaches
It is proved that the Electric Vehicle Scheduling and Charging Problem (EVSCP) is NP-hard in the ordinary sense and a mixed-integer linear programming formulation is provided to model the EVSCP and to solve large instances.
Spatial and Temporal Model of Electric Vehicle Charging Demand
A mathematical model of charging demand based on the fluid dynamic traffic model and the M/M/s queueing theory may allow grid's distribution planners to anticipate a charging demand profile at a charging station.
A Game-Theoretic Approach to Optimal Scheduling of Parking-Lot Electric Vehicle Charging
This study solves the parking-lot EV charging scheduling problem through a noncooperative game approach that considers the coupled constraint therein and the Nikaido-Isoda relaxation algorithm is used to calculate the equilibrium point.
Optimal Charging of Electric Vehicles for Load Shaping: A Dual-Splitting Framework With Explicit Convergence Bounds
A tailored distributed optimal charging algorithm for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) is proposed, exploiting the mathematical structure of the aggregated charging problem to distribute the optimization program, using duality theory.
Distribution Locational Marginal Pricing for Optimal Electric Vehicle Charging Management
The case study results show that the integrated DLMP methodology can successfully alleviate the congestion caused by EV loads and it is shown that the socially optimal charging schedule can be implemented through a decentralized mechanism where loads respond autonomously to the posted DLMPs by maximizing their individual net surplus.
