The capability to probe the dispersion of elementary spin, charge, orbital, and lattice excitations has positioned resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the forefront of photon science. Here we develop the scattering theory for RIXS on superconductors, calculating its momentum-dependent scattering amplitude. Considering superconductors with different pairing symmetries, we show that the low-energy scattering is strongly affected by the superconducting gap and coherence factors. This…

Theoretical approach to resonant inelastic x-ray scattering in iron-based superconductors at the energy scale of the superconducting gap
The results show that RIXS spectra can distinguish between s± and s++ wave gap functions in the singlet pairing case and an analogous intensity redistribution at small momenta can reveal the presence of a chiral p-wave triplet pairing.
Probing the energy gap of high-temperature cuprate superconductors by resonant inelastic x-ray scattering
The determination of the symmetry of the energy gap is crucial for research on the microscopic mechanisms of unconventional superconductivity. Here, we demonstrate experimentally that high-resolution
Indirect K-edge bimagnon resonant inelastic x-ray scattering spectrum of α-FeTe.
The predicted RIXS spectrum can be utilized to understand the role of multi-channel bimagnon spin excitations present in the α-FeTe chalcogenide, which is sensitive to next-next nearest neighbor and biquadratic coupling interactions.

An end-station for resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and (resonant) X-ray emission spectroscopy at beamline ID20 of ESRF - The European Synchrotron is presented. The spectrometer hosts five crystal
Probing Hidden Orders with Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering
We propose a general scheme for the derivation of the signals resonant inelastic (and elastic) x-ray scattering (RIXS) gives access to. In particular, we find that RIXS should allow to directly
Propagation and Scattering of High-Intensity X-Ray Pulses in Dense Atomic Gases and Plasmas
Nonlinear spectroscopy in the x-ray domain is a promising technique to explore the dynamics of elementary excitations in matter. X-rays provide an element specificity that allows them to target
Theory of fluctuating charge ordering in the pseudogap phase of cuprates via a preformed pair approach
We study the static and dynamic behavior of charge ordering within a d-wave pair pseudogap (pg) scenario. This is addressed using a density-density correlation function derived from the standard pg
Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering in Strongly Correlated Copper Oxides
In this chapter, I describe the RIXS technique for the study of electronic excitations in strongly correlated copper oxides from experimental point of view.
Fock Space Recursive Green's functions for bound complexes in partially filled bands of interacting systems
The exponential growth of the many-particle Hilbert space results in unfeasible scaling of memory and computation time requirements with system size, even in the simplest case of spinless fermions in
