SummaryCucurbita moschata ‘Menina’ originating from Portugal is known to carry a single dominant gene, Zym, for zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) resistance. Resistance to watermelon mosaic virus type 2 (WMV2) was found in the same cultivar. In resistant plants, WMV2 migration from inoculated leaves or cotyledons seems to be limited and blocked. Resistance to WMV2 is conferred by one dominant gene and is effective against eight strains from different geographic origins. Results of linkage… Expand

Inheritance of resistance to watermelon mosaic virus in the cucumber line TMG-1: tissue-specific expression and relationship to zucchini yellow mosaic virus resistance
TLDR
The inbred cucumber line TMG-1 is resistant to three potyviruses, and the gene conferring resistance to ZYMV appeared to be the same as, or tightly linked to one of the WMV resistance genes, wmv-3. Expand
Inheritance of resistance to four cucurbit viruses in Cucurbita moschata
TLDR
It is confirmed monogenic dominant resistance to ZYMV previously attributed to Zym, and monogenic dominance resistance to WMV and CMV is reported, and a single recessive gene is proposed to designate prv, which controls resistance to PRSV. Expand
Inheritance and linkage analysis of resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus, watermelon mosaic virus, papaya ringspot virus and powdery mildew in melon
TLDR
It is reported that line 414723-4S3, which was initially selected as a source of ZYMV and WMV resistance, is also a sources of dominant monogenic resistances to PRSV and PM race 1. Expand
Development of a strategy to induce RNA-silencing in squash against virus diseases by genetic transformation
TLDR
Using the optimized Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of squash embryogenic callus together with the efficient RNA-silencing of the inverted inverted repeat construct and freshely induced embryogenic material it is quite possible to establish virus resistance in squash. Expand
Development of RAPD and SCAR markers related to watermelon mosaic virus and zucchini yellow mosaic virus resistance in Cucurbita moschata
TLDR
Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers were developed using C. moschata lines resistant or susceptible to WMV and ZYMV and one of the RAPD markers was successfully converted into a SCAR marker (VirSq-F19). Expand
Genes for resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic in tropical pumpkin.
Four cultigens of Cucurbita moschata resistant to zucchini yellow mosaic virus were crossed with the susceptible 'Waltham Butternut' and with each other in order to clarify the mode of inheritance ofExpand
Inheritance of Resistance to Papaya Ringspot Virus-Papaya Strain in Melon (Cucumis melo L.)
TLDR
The genetic analysis results revealed that a single dominant gene conferred resistance to PRSV-P in Yamatouri and its generation, and breeding experiments were conducted by crossing the resistant Yam atouri with susceptible Vakharman. Expand
Papaya Ringspot Virus Watermelon Strain and Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Virus Resistance in Watermelon
TLDR
The gene symbol 'prv' is proposed for PRSV-W resistance in PI244017, PI 244019, and PI 485583 in watermelon, to identify additional sources of resistance to ZYMV. Expand
Localization of Zucchini yellow mosaic virus to the veinal regions and role of viral coat protein in veinal chlorosis conditioned by the zym potyvirus resistance locus in cucumber
TLDR
Observations suggest that resistance conferred by zym Dina is developmentally regulated and occurs at the level of systemic movement. Expand
Herança da resistência a Watermelon mosaic virus em melancia
TLDR
Aiming to study the inheritance of resistance to WMV in watermelon, crosses were made between Crimson Sweet and the resistant line L26, and the hypothesis of monogenic inheritance was rejected. Expand

Single-gene resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus in Cucurbita moschata
SummaryThe mode of inheritance for resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) in Cucurbita moschata was determined from F1, F2, and backcross progenies of the cross between the susceptibleExpand
Some characteristics of Australian isolates of zucchini yellow mosaic virus.
TLDR
Isolates of zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) were obtained from six cucurbit species from four states of Australia and identified by host range, electron microscopy and serology, and an antiserum was produced and reacted well in agarose gel-diffusion tests without prior virus particle disruption. Expand
Taxonomy of potyviruses: current problems and some solutions.
TLDR
An analysis of the data supports the view that the potyvirus group, including the non-aphid-transmitted viruses, should be elevated to family status, that the vector transmission mode should define the four genera, and that distinct potyviruses correspond to species and their variants to strains. Expand
Characteristics of the microplate method of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of plant viruses.
TLDR
The method enabled the highly sensitive detection of a number of morphologically different viruses in purified preparations and in unclarified extracts of herbaceous hosts and of infected crop plants. Expand
