Resistance against external aggression for central tube submarine optical fiber cable

Abstract

The central tube submarine optical fiber cables (SOFC) with double armors are recommended to lay in shallow water. However, they are often damaged by external aggression. The finite element method (FEM) models of two cable types, which are double-armored cable and single armored cable with two inner armors, are proposed in this paper. Crush and snag resistance performance of the cables are compared and analyzed. The distortion and strain of cable's tube core are simulated by the FEM model. Simulation results verified that the performance of inner armored cable is better than that of double armored cable.
