By methanol extraction and high-pressure liquid chromatography a nonprotein chromophore has been obtained from the antitumor protein antibiotic auromomycin (AUR) which possesses the cytotoxic and the in vivo and in vitro deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) strand scission activities of the parent material.
