Report on the use of a symbolic mathematics system in undergraduate instruction

Abstract

Beginning in the fall of 1983 we have experimented with the use of a symbolic mathematical system in the standard undergraduate mathematics curriculum. We believe that symbolic mathematical systems are currently a useful adjunct to the standard educational techniques and will have important consequences for the future of mathematics education when symbolic systems become widely available.
