The repellency and toxicity of mint oil to American, Periplan- eta americana (L.), and German, Blattella germanica (L.), cockroaches were evaluated in a series of laboratory experiments. In topical application experi- ments, mint oil was toxic to both species with toxicities (LD50s) of 2.57 (1.98- 4.20) in 10 l and 3.83 (2.35-7.34)% in 2 l for American and German cock- roaches, respectively. In continuous exposure experiments, Mortality (LT50) values for American cockroaches ranged from 246.8… Expand

Repellancy and contact toxicity of clove bud oil and its constituents against German cockroaches, Blatella germanica (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae), under laboratory conditions
TLDR
Clove bud powder, oil, eugenol, and e Eugenol acetate could be environmentally friendly tools for the management of German cockroaches under laboratory conditions. Expand
Fumigant Toxicity of Essential Oils to the German Cockroach (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae)
TLDR
No essential oil component prevented ootheca hatch, suggesting that multiple treatments would be required in the field to eliminate infestations. Expand
Repellency and insecticidal properties of seed oil of Jatropha curcas L. against American cockroach, Periplaneta americana L.
Background This study evaluated the effect of Jatropha curcas seed oil against adult American cockroach, Periplaneta americana , a mechanical disease vector, using three bioassay methods to determineExpand
Synergistic effect of some essential oils on toxicity and knockdown effects, against mosquitos, cockroaches and housefly
The toxicity and knockdown effect of Eucalyptus globulus, Rosmarinus officinalis essential oils and their mixed formulation on Periplaneta Americana (L.), Blattella germanica (L.), SupellaExpand
Repellency and Toxicity of Mint Oil Granules to Red Imported Fire Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
TLDR
Mint oil granules could provide another tool for red imported fire ant integrated pest management, particularly in situations in which conventional insecticides would be inappropriate. Expand
Repellency and fumigant toxicity of clove and sesame oils against American cockroach (Periplaneta americana (L.)
TLDR
Both clove and sesame oils can be used as repellent botanical insecticides, but only clove oil can be use as fumigant agent against P. americana because sesame oil gave no effect at tested concentrations. Expand
Surface Contact Toxicity of Clove and Rosemary Oils Against American Cockroach, Periplaneta americana (L.)
TLDR
Clove and rosemary oils may be used as promising botanical insecticides against P. americana and were investigated against the American cockroach in the laboratory, where clove oil exhibited stronger toxic effects than rosemary oil. Expand
Contact toxicity of essential oils of Allium sativum L. and Citrus nobilis var. deliciosa (Ten.) Swingle against adults of German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.) (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae)
Background: The German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.), is an important health and economic pest. Due to the development of resistance to insecticides and medical and economic importance ofExpand
Repellency of Five Essential Oils to Linepithema humile (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
Abstract Laboratory bioassays were performed to test the repellent properties of 5 plant-extracted essential oils against the Argentine ant, Linepithema humile (Mayr). Three concentrations (0.10%,Expand
Contact toxicity of essential oils of Allium sativum L. and Citrus nobilis var. deliciosa (Ten.) Swingle against adults of Blattella germanica (L.) (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae)
TLDR
The results of probit analyses of mortality data after 24 hours indicated that mortality of cockroaches was increased with increasing oil concentration, and the use of environmental-friendly biopesticides including essential oils is suggested for integrated management of German cockroach populations in urban areas. A performance index (PI) that combined choice box repellency and mortality data indicated that hydramethylnon (Combat) had the greatest potential for field effectiveness and only hydram methylnon significantly reduced German cockroach populations in the field. Expand
Two chemical repellents for control of German (Orthoptera: Blattellidae) and American cockroaches (Orthoptera: Blattidae).
TLDR
Two experimental repellents and a standard, 3-isopropyl-l-methylcyclopentanecarboxylic acid effectively repelled both the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, and the Americancockroach, Periplaneta americana. Expand
Repellency of Milled Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar to Domiciliary Cockroaches (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae and Blattidae)
TLDR
Cedar flake boards may be useful as a repellent in indoor cockroach integrated pest management and did not cause cockroach mortality in continuous-exposure tests. Expand
Toxicity of several insecticide formulations against adult German cockroaches (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae).
TLDR
Sex differences should be considered when determining insecticide toxicity for German cockroaches, as males and gravid females were generally more sensitive than nongravid females to the insecticides that the authors tested. Expand
Effects of four monoterpenoids on growth and reproduction of the German cockroach (Blattodea: Blattellidae).
TLDR
Feeding on diet treated with monoterpenoids during nymphal development and through the early, premating period of the adult stage did not significantly influence numbers of broods produced per pair, numbers of offspring per brood, days required to produce a brood, total offspring produced by a pair, or female life span. Expand
Influence of repellency on the efficacy of blatticides. I. Learned modification of behavior of the German cockroach.
TLDR
The complete insecticide-avoidance behavior pattern involved associative learning augmented and extended by a more elementary type of learning known as ‘habituation’, which was able to learn to avoid the repellent types of insecticide deposits applied in dark areas, thereby resisting its strong impulse to enter such areas. Expand
Toxicity of D-limonene, the major component of citrus peel oil, to all life stages of the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis (Siphonaptera: Pulicidae).
TLDR
D-limonene was toxic to all life stages of the cat flea; eggs were most sensitive, followed by adults and then larvae; pupae were least affected and symptoms of poisoning suggest that this monoterpene acts on the nervous system. Expand
Alkyl and aryl neoalkanamides: highly effective insect repellents.
Alkyl and aryl neoalkanamides with a total carbon number between 11 and 14, or within a molecular weight range between 185 and 227, were highly effective repellents of male German cockroaches,Expand
Insecticidal properties of monoterpenoid derivatives to the house fly (diptera: Muscidae) and red flour beetle (coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)
TLDR
Fluoroacetates of cyclic monoterpenoids were the most effective house fly fumigants, followed by acetates, and trichloroacetates, which were both more insecticidal and more effective than haloacetates in the topical, red flour beetle fumigation and ovicidal bioassays. Expand
