In this paper we present a novel structure for removal of impulse noise which is based on a combination of impulse detection and nonlinear filtering. The impulse detector is realized as a neural network which will be shown to possess a very simple structure. This means that, compared to traditional approaches, a significant gain in performance can be achieved with considerably smaller complexity. Further, we show that the basic system is not restricted to the removal of impulse noise only, and…

A new adaptive algorithm for suppression of impulse noise is presented which is based on a special combination of impulse detection and nonlinear filtering where only a small number of parameters is required.

Nonlinear Quincunx Filters

We propose a robust nonlinear technique for random impulse and mixed noise removal. The presented “nonlinear quincunx filter” bundles the pixels in arbitrary shaped (rectangle cross, bidiagonal,

A Two-Stage Fuzzy Filtering Method to Restore Images Contaminated by Mixed Impulse and Gaussian Noises

A two-stage fuzzy filtering method to sequentially remove the mixed noises of images corrupted with nonlinear impulse and linear Gaussian noises as well is proposed and is superior, both quantitatively and visually, compared to several other techniques.

Decision-Based Nonlinear Filters for Image and Video Restoration

Logical System Representation of Images and Removal of Impulse Noise

Three filtering algorithms are presented: a general form in addition to iterative and switching variations and are shown to be most successful in the often difficult case of when the original image contains many detailed patterns.

Development of Some Novel Nonlinear and Adaptive Digital Image Filters for Efficient Noise Suppression

Some nonlinear and adaptive digital image filtering algorithms have been developed in this thesis to suppress additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), bipolar fixed-valued impulse, also called salt and

A Novel Filtering Scheme for Impulse Noise Cancellation

This paper proposes a novel filtering scheme to denoise images contaminated by impulse noise of high densities. This scheme utilizes two stage operations. In the first stage, corrupted image is
