The volume rendering software which we are using is based on a perspective version of the shear-warp algorithm. The shear-warp algorithm for parallel projection is described in [1], its extension for perspective projection and important improvements for virtual environments are described in our paper [3]. The remote rendering algorithm is an MPI parallelized version of the single processor perspective shear-warp algorithm.
