OBJECTIVE Although osteoporosis and atherosclerosis seem to be related, the mechanisms are not yet understood. We previously observed that women with higher serum concentrations of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), a strong risk factor for atherosclerosis, had lower bone mineral density (BMD).
