BACKGROUND Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a hereditary hemoglobinopathy characterized by hemolytic anemia. The oxidative phenomena play a significant role in its pathophysiology. Blood transfusions are a therapeutic mainstay in SCD and repeated transfusions can result in iron overload.
