In order to evaluate the effect of cesarean section on reduction of perinatal mortality rate (PMR) all births delivered in Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from Jan. 11980 to Dec. 3I 1992 were analyzed. The total number of deliveries in the study period was 74199. The number of cesarean section deliveries was 18557. The cesarean section rate was 25.0%. The total number of perinatal cases was 74914.
