The VicRK (YycFG) two-component regulatory system (TCS) is required for virulence of the human respiratory pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). The VicR (YycF) response regulator (RR) is essential through its positive regulation of pcsB, which encodes an extracellular protein that mediates murein biosynthesis.
