Abstract 1. 1. On the basis of studies in vivo we proposed two independently regulated pathways of ribose metabolism in Escherichia coli X289; one anabolic, the other amphibolic. Glucose-6-P inhibition of the heat-labile ribose-5-P isomerase activity, and ribose-5-P inhibition of the ribokinase, are the two important control points in this scheme. 2. 2.
