Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived factor that plays pivotal roles in lipid and glucose metabolism in muscle and liver. The following two adiponectin receptor types were recently identified: AdipoR1 is abundantly expressed in muscle, whereas AdipoR2 is predominantly expressed in the liver. To clarify the regulation of adiponectin receptor gene expression in diabetic states, we examined mRNA levels of AdipoR1 in the muscles of diabetic animals by Northern blotting. The level of AdipoR1 mRNA was…

Adiponectin Regulation in Type 2 Diabetic Rats: Effects of Insulin, Metformin and Dexamethasone
TLDR
Results showed that metformin improved insulin resistance by normalizing serum lipid profiles in diabetic rats, while dexamethasone failed to improve insulin resistance in T2D rats.
The effect of exercise training on adiponectin receptor expression in KKAy obese/diabetic mice.
TLDR
Chronic exercise training affects the expression level of adiponectin receptors thereby improving insulin resistance in KKAy mice, and no significant changes were observed in the expression of genes encoding the adiponected receptors in addition to other genes except for CPT1 in the DR group.
Insulin decreases myocardial adiponectin receptor 1 expression via PI3K/Akt and FoxO1 pathway.
TLDR
Insulin inhibits myocardial AdipoR1 expression via PI3K/Akt and FoxO1 pathways, andFoxO1 mediates AdipOR1 transcription by binding to its promoter directly.
Expression of the adiponectin receptors AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 in lean rats and in obese Zucker rats.
Regulation of Adiponectin Receptor 2 Expression via PPAR-α in NIT-1 Cells
TLDR
The results suggest that AdiR2 expression is regulated by palmit ate via PPAR-α, and may play a role in worsened β cell function.
Hyperglycemia- and hyperinsulinemia-induced alteration of adiponectin receptor expression and adiponectin effects in L6 myoblasts.
TLDR
The results suggest that both hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia cause gAd resistance in rat skeletal muscle cells, however, hyperinsulainemia induces a switch toward increased fAd sensitivity in these cells.

Hormonal regulation of adiponectin gene expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
TLDR
The results suggest that adiponectin gene expression is reversibly downregulated by insulin, TNFalpha, and dexamethasone, and support the concept of adip onectin being an important selectively controlled modulator of insulin sensitivity.
Expression of adiponectin receptor mRNA in human skeletal muscle cells is related to in vivo parameters of glucose and lipid metabolism.
TLDR
Evidence is provided that myotube mRNA levels of both receptors are associated with distinct metabolic functions but not with insulin sensitivity, as well as the molecular nature of this link between muscle and beta-cells needs to be further clarified.
Cloning of adiponectin receptors that mediate antidiabetic metabolic effects
TLDR
The cloning of complementary DNAs encoding adiponectin receptors 1 and 2 by expression cloning supports the conclusion that they serve as receptors for globular and full-length adiponECTin, and that they mediate increased AMP kinase and PPAR-α ligand activities, as well as fatty-acid oxidation and glucose uptake by adiponectionin.
Diet-induced insulin resistance in mice lacking adiponectin/ACRP30
TLDR
The results indicate that adiponectin/ACRP30 deficiency and high TNF-α levels in KO mice reduced muscle FATP-1 mRNA and IRS-1-mediated insulin signaling, resulting in severe diet-induced insulin resistance.
Induction of Adipocyte Complement-Related Protein of 30 Kilodaltons by PPARγ Agonists: A Potential Mechanism of Insulin Sensitization.
TLDR
Circulating Acrp30 levels were suppressed 5-fold in patients with severe insulin resistance in association with PPARγ agonists, and in a cohort of normal human subjects, 14-d treatment with rosiglitazone also produced a 130% increase in circulating Acr p30 levels vs. placebo.
Induction of adipocyte complement-related protein of 30 kilodaltons by PPARgamma agonists: a potential mechanism of insulin sensitization.
TLDR
Induction of adipose tissue Acr p30 expression and consequent increases in circulating Acrp30 levels represents a novel potential mechanism for PPARgamma-mediated enhancement of whole-body insulin sensitivity and is likely to be a biomarker of in vivo PPargamma activation.
Adiponectin receptors gene expression and insulin sensitivity in non-diabetic Mexican Americans with or without a family history of Type 2 diabetes
TLDR
Gene expression profiling indicated that both isoforms of the adiponectin receptor play a role in the insulin-sensitising effect of adip onectin in human skeletal muscle.
Adiponectin, an Adipocyte-Derived Plasma Protein, Inhibits Endothelial NF-&kgr;B Signaling Through a cAMP-Dependent Pathway
TLDR
The possibility that adiponectin, which is naturally present in the blood stream, modulates the inflammatory response of endothelial cells through cross talk between cAMP-PKA and NF-&kgr;B signaling pathways is raised.
Induction of adiponectin, a fat-derived antidiabetic and antiatherogenic factor, by nuclear receptors.
TLDR
The results indicate that PPAR-gamma and LRH-1 play significant roles in the transcriptional activation of adiponectin gene via the PPRE and theLRH-RE in its promoter.
Involvement of AMP-activated protein kinase in glucose uptake stimulated by the globular domain of adiponectin in primary rat adipocytes.
TLDR
Inhibition of AMP kinase activation using two pharmacological inhibitors completely abrogated the increase in glucose uptake stimulated by globular adiponectin, indicating that AMP Kinase is integrally involved in the adiponECTin signal transduction pathway.
