Regular braneworlds with nonlinear bulk-fluids

We construct a regular five-dimensional brane-world with localised gravity on a flat 3-brane. The matter content in the bulk is parametrised by an analog of a non-linear fluid with equation of state p = γρλ between the ‘pressure’ p and the ‘density’ ρ dependent on the 5th dimension. For γ negative and λ > 1, the null energy condition is satisfied and the geometry is free of singularities within finite distance from the brane, while the induced four-dimensional Planck mass is finite. ∗antoniad…

Brane-world asymptotics in a nonlinear fluid bulk

We present recent results on the asymptotics of a brane-world that consists of a flat 3brane embedded in a five-dimensional bulk. The bulk matter is modelled by a fluid that satisfies a nonlinear

Self-tuning of the cosmological constant in brane-worlds with $P(X,\phi)$

We revisit the idea of self-tuning the observed cosmological constant to a vanishing value and promote it to a selection criterion of brane-world models, in which our Universe is described by a

Localizing branes with bifurcating bulks

We study the problem of evolution of bulk 5-fluids having an embedded braneworld with a flat, de Sitter, or anti-de Sitter geometry. We introduce new variables to express the Einstein equations as a

Impact of compactlike and asymmetric configurations of thick branes on the scalar–tensor representation of $$f\left( R,T\right) $$ gravity

In this work we study braneworld models in generalized $$f\left( R,T\right) $$ f R , T gravity theories where the action depends on a function of the Ricci scalar R and the trace of the

Superluminal Geometrodynamics of Braneworld Hyperdrive via Brane-Bulk Interaction

The idea of superluminal travel in the framework of General Relativity has firstly been introduced by Miguel Alcubierre. Instead of puncturing through a hole in spacetime as in a wormhole, this

100 years of mathematical cosmology: Models, theories and problems, Part B

We continue our overview of mathematical cosmology with a survey of the third and fourth periods of the development of the subject. The first Part includes the first two periods and is published

Regular braneworlds with bulk fluids

We review studies on the singularity structure and asymptotic analysis of a 3-brane (flat or curved) embedded in a five-dimensional bulk filled with a ‘perfect fluid’ with an equation of state p =

Brane-world singularities and asymptotics of five-dimensional bulk fluids

We review studies on the singularity structure and asymptotic analysis of a 3-brane (flat or curved) embedded in a five-dimensional bulk filled with a ‘perfect fluid’ with an equation of state p=γρ,

Curved branes with regular support

We study spacetime singularities in a general five-dimensional braneworld with curved branes satisfying four-dimensional maximal symmetry. The bulk is supported by an analog of perfect fluid with the

Brane singularities and their avoidance

The singularity structure and the corresponding asymptotic behavior of a 3-brane coupled to a scalar field or to a perfect fluid in a five-dimensional bulk is analyzed in full generality using the

Enveloping branes and brane-world singularities

All flat brane solutions suffer from a finite-distance singularity contrary to previous claims, and the possibility of avoiding finite- distance singularities by cutting the bulk and gluing regular solutions at the position of the brane is studied.

Brane singularities with mixtures in the bulk

By extending previous analysis of the authors, a systematic study of the singularity structure and possible asymptotic behaviors of five‐dimensional braneworld solutions is performed in the case

Bounds on curved domain walls in 5D gravity

The authors discuss maximally symmetric curved deformations of the flat domain wall solutions of five-dimensional dilaton gravity that appeared in a recent approach to the cosmological constant

Nontrival Cosmological Constant in Brane Worlds with Unorthodox Lagrangians

In self-tuning brane-world models with extra dimensions, large contributions to the cosmological constant are absorbed into the curvature of extra dimensions and consistent with flat 4d geometry. In

Curvature Singularities: the Good, the Bad, and the Naked

Necessary conditions are proposed for the admissibility of singular classical solutions with 3+1-dimensional Poincare invariance to five-dimensional gravity coupled to scalars. Finite temperature

Properties of singularities in the (phantom) dark energy universe

The properties of future singularities are investigated in the universe dominated by dark energy including the phantom-type fluid. We classify the finite-time singularities into four classes and
