OBJECTIVE To investigate differential intestinal gene expression in patients with ulcerative colitis and in controls. DESIGN Genome-wide expression study (41,058 expression sequence tags, 215 biopsies). SETTING Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, UK, and Genentech, San Francisco, USA.
