The process of embryogenesis is described for the inarticulate brachiopod Discinisca strigata of the family Discinidae. A fate map has been constructed for the early embryo. The animal half of the egg forms the dorsal ectoderm of the apical and mantle lobes. The vegetal half forms mesoderm and endoderm and is the site of gastrulation; it also forms the ectoderm of the ventral regions of the apical and mantle lobes of the larva.
