Background and Purpose— Reflux esophagitis (RE) is the most common manifestation of gastro-esophageal reflux disease with esophageal injury. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no specific study to evaluate the risk of stroke after diagnosis of RE in young adults. This study aims to evaluate the risk of stroke among RE patients aged 18 to 50 years during a 1-year period after diagnosis of RE compared to a cohort of non-RE patients during the same period. Methods— This study used the…
Reflux esophagitis and stroke: which is the cause?
To the Editor: It is with great interest that I read “Reflux Esophagitis and the Risk of Stroke in Young Adults: A 1-Year Population-Based Follow-Up Study” by Sheu et al,1 which first addressed the
A population-based 2-year follow-up study on the relationship between bisphosphonates and the risk of stroke
TLDR
Patients who received bisphosphonate therapy were associated with a lower risk of stroke during a 2-year follow-up period and after adjusting for demographic variables and medical co-morbidities, stratified Cox proportional hazards regressions revealed this.
Chronic Kidney Disease Itself Is a Causal Risk Factor for Stroke beyond Traditional Cardiovascular Risk Factors: A Nationwide Cohort Study in Taiwan
TLDR
It is indicated that CKD itself is a causal risk factor for stroke beyond the traditional cardiovascular risk factors and all CKD patients, irrespective of the presence or severity of traditional cardiovascularrisk factors, should be made aware of the stroke risk and monitored for stroke prevention.
Chronic rhinosinusitis increased the risk of stroke: A 5‐year follow‐up study
TLDR
A large scale population‐based cohort study in Taiwan surveys patients with chronic rhinosinusitis to explore the frequency and risk for stroke among patients with CRS and the detailed epidemiological profile of stroke risk is explored.
Reflux esophagitis increased the risk of bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis: A 3‐year follow‐up study
TLDR
The association between RE and bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) is explored to explore the association between these two diseases.
Association Between Statin Use and Bell’s Palsy: A Population-Based Study
TLDR
A potential association between regular statin use and Bell’s palsy is suggested using a population-based health insurance database.
Validating the diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke in a National Health Insurance claims database.
Prevalence and associations of the use of proton-pump inhibitors in nursing homes: a cross-sectional study.
Comparative stroke risk of antiepileptic drugs in patients with epilepsy
Purpose:  Patients with epilepsy have higher stroke‐related morbidity and mortality, leading to the suspicion that the increased stroke events may be associated with antiepileptic drug (AED)
Asthma and stroke: a narrative review
TLDR
Since asthma is associated with a variety of comorbidities, such as cardiovascular, metabolic and respiratory, the increased incidence of stroke in asthma patients may be due to a confounding effect.

A case series of young stroke in Rome
TLDR
Despite its biased sampling frame, this large hospital case series, in which risk factor distribution and etiopathogenesis were investigated, stresses the need for an adequate diagnostic approach in young ischemic patients.
Clinical Spectrum of Reflux Esophagitis Among 25,536 Koreans Who Underwent a Health Check-up: A Nationwide Multicenter Prospective, Endoscopy-based Study
TLDR
The prevalence of endoscopic reflux esophagitis was found to be 7.91% in Korea, and the profiles of reflux symptoms were found to depend on grade of RE and sex.

TLDR
There is a strong case for increased vigilance in the detection of GERD in the Japanese population, where patients with endoscopically diagnosed GERD appear to be less likely to complain of typical reflux symptoms, such as heartburn and acid reflux than their Western counterparts.
Epidemiology of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease: a systematic review
TLDR
The prevalence and incidence of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease was estimated from 15 studies which defined GORD as at least weekly heartburn and/or acid regurgitation and met criteria concerning sample size, response rate, and recall period.

TLDR
Ambulatory pH monitoring is therefore a frequently used diagnostic tool as it allows correlation between reflux events and symptoms, and is especially useful in patients with atypical or extraoesophageal symptoms.
Prevalence of linked angina and gastroesophageal reflux disease in general practice.
TLDR
The present study suggested that ischemic heart disease might be found although a patient was referred to the hospital with a complaint of GERD symptoms, and Physicians have to be concerned about missing clinically important coronary artery disease while evaluating patients forGERD symptoms.
Erosive Esophagitis and Barrett's Esophagus in Taiwan (A Higher Frequency than Expected)
TLDR
It is concluded that in contrast toprevious experience, the Chinese population in Taiwan appears to have a higher frequency of erosive esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus, and hiatal hernia.
Autonomic neuropathy predicts the development of stroke in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
TLDR
Autonomic neuropathy is an independent risk factor for stroke in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and determined at 5-year examination predicted the development of stroke.
