We examined the heart rate changes induced by forced breathing and by standing up in 133 healthy subjects in the age range 10–65 years in order to establish a data base for studies on parasympathetic heart rate control in autonomic neuropathy. Test results declined with age. Log-transformation was used to define the lower limit of normal (P0.10) and an uncertainty range (values between P0.10 and P0.025).
