Abstract In this paper we analyze the frequency shifts of the light emitted by particles describing stable circular geodesics around a static black hole immersed in an external magnetic field of arbitrary strength. This system is represented by the Ernst solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations. The presence of the magnetic field and its magnitude affects both the geodesics and the red-blueshifts of the light emitted by neutral or charged particles orbiting the black hole. When the magnetic…

Mass and spin of Kerr black holes in terms of observational quantities: The dragging effect on the redshift

In this work, we elaborate on the development of a general relativistic formalism that allows one to analytically express the mass and spin parameters of the Kerr black hole in terms of observational

Black hole in a uniform magnetic field

Using the fact that a Killing vector in a vacuum spacetime serves as a vector potential for a Maxwell test field, we derive the solution for the electromagnetic field occurring when a stationary,

Obtaining mass parameters of compact objects from redshifts and blueshifts emitted by geodesic particles around them

The mass parameters of compact objects such as Boson Stars, Schwarzschild, Reissner Nordstrom and Kerr black holes are computed in terms of the measurable redshift-blueshift (zred, zblue) of photons

Quasinormal modes of charged regular black hole

The quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a charged regular black hole are calculated in the eikonal approximation. In the eikonal limit, the QNMs of the black hole are determined by the parameters of unstable

Gravitational redshift/blueshift of light emitted by geodesic test particles, frame-dragging and pericentre-shift effects, in the Kerr–Newman–de Sitter and Kerr–Newman black hole geometries

We investigate the redshift and blueshift of light emitted by timelike geodesic particles in orbits around a Kerr-Newman-(anti) de Sitter (KN(a)dS) black hole. Specifically we compute the redshift

Influence of weak electromagnetic fields on charged particle ISCOs

Astrophysical black holes are often embedded into electromagnetic fields, that can usually be treated as test fields not influencing the spacetime geometry. Here we analyse the innermost stable

First M87 Event Horizon Telescope Results. I. The Shadow of the Supermassive Black Hole

When surrounded by a transparent emission region, black holes are expected to reveal a dark shadow caused by gravitational light bending and photon capture at the event horizon. To image and study

Black holes in a magnetic universe

We present a general procedure for transforming asymptotically flat axially symmetric solutions of the Einstein–Maxwell equations into solutions resembling Melvin’s magnetic universe. Specific

Dynamics of Cylindrical Electromagnetic Universes

Surface geometry of a black hole in a magnetic field

The Gaussian curvature of the event horizon of a black hole embedded in a magnetic field is examined. It is shown that a zone of negative curvature develops if the magnetic field parameter exceeds a

Trajectories of charged particles in the static Ernst space-time

The authors study the trajectories of charged particles in Ernst's space-time representing a static black hole immersed in a magnetic field. They find bound orbits always exist for realistic magnetic
