The hadronic width of the ground state of pionic hydrogen has been redetermined by X-ray spectroscopy to be $$\varGamma ^{\pi \mathrm {H}}_{1s}=(856\,\pm \,16_\mathrm{stat}\,\pm \,22_\mathrm{sys})$$ Γ 1 s π H = ( 856 ± 16 stat ± 22 sys )  meV. The experiment was performed at the high-intensity low-energy pion beam of the Paul Scherrer Institute by using the cyclotron trap and a high-resolution Bragg spectrometer with spherically bent crystals…
Pion-Nucleon Sigma Term from Lattice QCD.
An analysis of the pion-nucleon σ-term σ_{πN} using six ensembles with 2+1+1-flavor highly improved staggered quark action generated by the MILC Collaboration shows that the leading contribution to the isoscalar scalar charge comes from Nπ and Nππ states.
What has been learnt from the analysis of the low-energy pion-nucleon data during the past three decades?
Over twenty-five years ago, two analyses of the pion-nucleon (πN) data at low energy (i.e., for pion laboratory kinetic energy T ≤ 100 MeV) reported on the departure of the extracted scattering
Dispersion-theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon: Past, present and future
We review the dispersion-theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon. We emphasize in particular the role of unitarity and analyticity in the construction of the isoscalar
Pionic hydrogen and deuterium
The ground-state level shifts and broadenings of the hydrogen isotopes caused by the strong interaction have been redetermined by using a high-resolution crystal spectrometer. An additional

The pion nucleon coupling constant
Abstract. The latest ${\rm\pi} N$ elastic scattering data are re-analysed to determine the coupling constant gc of the charged pion, using the dispersion relation for the invariant amplitude B(+ ).
The pion–nucleon scattering lengths from pionic hydrogen and deuterium
Abstract. This is the final publication of the ETH Zurich–Neuchâtel–PSI collaboration on the pionic hydrogen and deuterium precision X-ray experiments. We describe the recent hydrogen 3p–1s
The Influence of pp pi ions on pion absorption in H-2
The existence of three-body resonances in the molecular ion $\mathrm{pp}\ensuremath{\pi}$ has been shown by means of a variational calculation in Jacobi coordinates. The relativistic and strong-force
Production of Pions in Nucleon-Nucleon Collisions at Cyclotron Energies
All available data on the production of pions in nucleon-nucleon collisions at cyclotron energies are compiled and are compared with the phenomenological theory of Watson and Brueckner. The principle
The chiral representation of the $\pi N$ scattering amplitude and the pion-nucleon sigma term
We present a novel analysis of the $\ensuremath{\pi}N$ scattering amplitude in Lorentz covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory renormalized in the extended-on-mass-shell scheme. This amplitude,
The pion-nucleon scattering lengths from pionic deuterium
Abstract. We use the framework of effective field theories to discuss the determination of the S-wave $\pi N$ scattering lengths from the recent high-precision measurements of pionic deuterium
Precise determination of charge-dependent pion-nucleon-nucleon coupling constants
We undertake a covariance error analysis of the pion-nucleon-nucleon coupling constants from the Granada-2013 np and pp database comprising a total of 6720 scattering data below LAB energy of 350
Hadronic uncertainties in the elastic scattering of supersymmetric dark matter
We review the uncertainties in the spin-independent and spin-dependent elastic scattering cross sections of supersymmetric dark matter particles on protons and neutrons. We propagate the
Analysis of the low-energy $\pi^- p$ charge-exchange data
We analyse the charge-exchange (CX) measurements $\pi^- p\rightarrow \pi^0 n$ below pion laboratory kinetic energy of 100 MeV. After the removal of five degrees of freedom from the initial database,
