The corepressors N-CoR (nuclear receptor corepressor) and SMRT (silencing mediator for retinoid and thyroid hormone receptors) interact with unliganded nuclear hormone receptors, including thyroid hormone (T(3)) receptor (TR). Several N-CoR/SMRT complexes containing histone deacetylases have been purified.
