  • The Harris and Priester model for thermosphere structure is used to obtain the diurnally oscillating component of the east-west pressure acceleration [−(1/ρ) (∂p/∂x)] at the equator. The motion resulting from this acceleration is computed with special attention paid to the interactions of inertia, ion drag, and viscous diffusion.
