Background Stroke should be conceptualized as a syndrome. The term ‘stroke’ is a rubric that includes ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack, intracerebral hemorrhage, atraumatic or aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.
