BACKGROUND Rhabdomyolysis is one of the causes of acute renal failure. Erythropoietin (EPO) has been found to interact with its receptor (EPO-R) expressed in a large variety of non-haematopoietic tissues to induce a range of pleiotropic cytoprotective actions.
