The reaction mechanism of nuclease P1 from Penicillium citrinum has been investigated using single-stranded dithiophosphorylated di-, tetra-, and hexanucleotides as substrate analogs. The complexes crystallize in tetragonal and orthorhombic space groups and have been solved by molecular replacement.
