We describe the status of our effort to realize a first neutrino factory and the progress made in understanding the problems associated with the collection and cooling of muons towards that end. We summarize the physics that can be done with neutrino factories as well as with intense cold beams of muons. The physics potential of muon colliders is reviewed, both as Higgs factories and compact high-energy lepton colliders. The status and time scale of our research and development effort is…

Muon cooling: a key R&D towards Neutrino Factories and Muon Colliders

Muon beams of high brilliance are basilar for future facilities such as a Neutrino Factory, an Higgs-factory or a multi-TeV Muon Collider. Along this R&D path, cooling of the incoming muon beams is

OPTIMIZING MUON CAPTURE AND TRANSPORT FOR A NEUTRINO FACTORY/MUON COLLIDER FRONT END

In the current baseline scheme of the Neutrino Factory/Muon Collider a muon beam from pion decay is produced by bombarding a liquid-mercury-jet target with a 4-MW pulsed proton beam. The target is

Muon Colliders and Neutrino Factories

Over the past decade, there has been significant progress in developing the concepts and technologies needed to produce, capture, and accelerate O(1021) muons per year. These developments have paved

Final Muon Cooling For A Muon Collider

To explore the new energy frontier, a new generation of particle accelerators is needed. Muon colliders are a promising alternative, if muon cooling can be made to work. Muons are 200 times heavier
