The authors describe a unicycle robot. By using a new method for detecting the posture of the robot in three dimensions, the authors conducted experiments on this robot under the proposed control method. The robot's posture is stabilized successfully both in longitudinal and in lateral directions in three dimensions. And the experimental results show that the proposed model and control method are effective and active for emulating a human riding a unicycle system. The authors believe that this…
Realization of an unmanned bicycle robot with balancer
In this research, stabilizing control and trajectory track ing control of an autonomous bicycle are derived independently based on the simplified nonlinear model derived from Lagrange's equations and nonholonomic constrai nts.
Study on the Stability and Motion Control of a Unicycle : 3rd Report, Characteristics of Unicycle Robot
In this paper, the characteristics of a unicycle robot are determined by analyzing a unicycle robot with an asymmetric rotor and closed-link mechanisms. Firstly, the dynamic equations of motion are
A consideration of human-unicycle model for unicycle operation analysis based on moment balancing point
The unicycle operation is a good exercise for training of the sense of balance, the agility and the ability to coordinate the body according to situations. This paper aims to give an interpretation
Soft computing for the intelligent robust control of a robotic unicycle with a new physical measure for mechanical controllability
A general measure to estimate the mechanical controllability qualitatively and quantitatively, even if any control scheme is applied is provided and can be computed using a Lyapunov function coupled with the thermodynamic entropy change.
Speed and balancing control for unicycle robot
Simulation result validates that robot can balance using PID controller, while based on balancing pitch experiment result, robot can achieve balancing with maximum inclination about ±23 degree on pitch angle and ±3.5 degree on roll angle with steady state error 0.1 degree.
Motion planning and feedback control of a planar robotic unicycle model
Abstract Open and closed loop control design for the planar motion of a unicycle model consisting of a double pendulum mounted on a rolling wheel is considered. The motion planning problem is solved
Modeling and active disturbance rejection control algorithm of single wheel robot
Single wheel robot's (SWR) balance of pitch is controlled by a wheel moving back and forth, and its roll balance is hold by a wind wheel based on the air force. This structure is used as the
Design and simulate of LQR-Fuzzy controller for unicycle robot with double flywheels
This research is focus on design and simulate unicycle robot with double flywheels model with LQR-Fuzzy controller, a combination algorithm between LQRs and Fuzzy controllers to control the heading of the robot.
Motion Mountain-The Adventure of Physics
Experiments show that the properties of Galilean time and space are extracted from the environment by most higher animals and by young children. Among others, this has been tested for cats, dogs,

Study on the Stability and Motion Control of a Unicycle : Part I : Dynamics of a Human Riding a Unicycle and Its Modeling by Link Mechanisms
In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of a human riding a unicycle are analyzed following observation. From the observation and analysis, we found that the rider's trunk, thighs and shanks form
Midair Posture Detection and Landing Control of a Robot with Multiarticulated Twin Legs.
In the previous papers, the authors investigated a robot cat which could restore its attitude during free fall by twisting and controlling the body. Then the principle of the twisting motion was
Dynamic Walking Control of the One-Legged Robot Which Has the Controlling Rotor
This paper deals with the newly developed robot 'O-jiro (One-legged jigging robot)' which realized stilts-walking. The impact of stepping by two legs disturbs the balance of the body, so this robot
Design and simulation of control systems of an inverted pendulum
In this paper, the two-degree-of-freedom monocycle is modeled by an inverted pendulum with a controlling arm pivoted at its upper end and it is found that the optimal control method is superior to the pole assignment one.
Running on four legs as though they were one
The concept of a virtual leg is introduced to further extend the approach to gaits that use the legs in pairs, such as the trot, the pace, and the bound.
Dynamics and nonlinear adaptive control of an autonomous unicycle: theory and experiment
Equations of motion for an autonomous unicycle are given as derived using Kane's formalism, and the unstable nonminimum-phase behavior of the linearized system is illustrated. Lateral and
