This paper presents an experimental demonstration of a basic cell of the quantum-dot cellular automata, a transistorless approach to computation that addresses the issues of device density, interconnection, and power dissipation. The device under study was composed of four metal dots, connected with tunnel junctions and capacitors, and operated at <50 mK. Operation was evidenced by switching of a single electron between output dots controlled by a single electron switching in input dots…

Demonstration of a six-dot quantum cellular automata system

We report an experimental demonstration of a logic cell for quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA). This nanostructure-based computational paradigm allows logic function implementation without the use

Quantum-dot cellular automata: Review and recent experiments (invited)

An introduction to the operation of quantum-dot cellular automata is presented, along with recent experimental results. Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) is a transistorless computation paradigm

Experimental demonstration of a binary wire for quantum-dot cellular automata

Experimental studies are presented of a binary wire based on the quantum-dot cellular automata computational paradigm. The binary wire consists of capacitively coupled double-dot cells charged with

Experimental demonstration of a leadless quantum-dot cellular automata cell

We present the experimental characterization of a leadless (floating) double-dot system and a leadless quantum-dot cellular automata cell, where aluminum metal islands are connected to the

Demonstration of a silicon-based quantum cellular automata cell

We report on the demonstration of a silicon-based quantum cellular automata (QCA) unit cell incorporating two pairs of metallically doped (n+) phosphorus-implanted nanoscale dots, separated from

Logical devices implemented using quantum cellular automata

This work examines the possible implementation of logic devices using coupled quantum dot cells, which use these cells to design inverters, programmable logic gates, dedicated AND and OR gates, and non‐interfering wire crossings.

MINIATURE ELECTRICAL FILTERS FOR SINGLE ELECTRON DEVICES

In experiments on single electron devices, the electromagnetic noise from parts of the apparatus at temperatures higher than that of the device can dramatically increase the tunnel rates out of the

Quantum Cellular Automata

The authors formulate a new paradigm for computing with cellular automata (CAS) composed of arrays of quantum devices-quantum cellular Automata (CA) and show that AND gates, OR gates, and inverters can be constructed and interconnected.
