This paper demonstrates analytically and experimentally an acoustic levitation motor which has the ability to levitate and rotate an object in the air without mechanical contact. To realize such a device two core methods are applied simultaneously; (i) resonance tracking with an Autoresonance feedback loop, (ii) generation of controlled structural traveling waves. The purpose of the first method is to achieve near-field acoustic levitation, which can levitate an object of a few kilograms. In…

Vector control method applied to a traveling wave in a finite beam

This paper presents the closed-loop control of exciters to produce a traveling wave in a finite beam. This control is based on a dynamical modeling of the system established in a rotating reference

Resonance tracking in a squeeze-film levitation device

Near‐field acoustic levitation of planar specimens using flexural vibration

In conventional acoustic levitation, the specimens to be levitated are limited to very light ones of a few milligrams to a few tens of milligrams. The authors have learned that specimens with a

Levitation force induced by pressure radiation in gas squeeze films

An analytical and numerical study on the levitation force induced by pressure radiation in gas squeeze films is investigated. The levitation phenomenon is known to occur when a planar object is

An ultrasonically levitated noncontact stage using traveling vibrations on precision ceramic guide rails

A noncontact sliding table design and measurements of its performance via ultrasonic levitation are presented, allowing a transport mechanism that reduces abrasion and dust generation with an inexpensive and simple structure.

Automatic vibration mode selection and excitation; combining modal filtering with autoresonance

Stability and Resolution Analysis of a Phase-Locked Loop Natural Frequency Tracking System for MEMS Fatigue Testing

An analysis of a nonlinear control system that was used to track the natural frequency of a MEMS resonator is presented in this paper. A phase-locked loop system is used to track the natural
