We describe the establishment of a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the quantitative estimation of human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) proviral load using a LightCycler Technology (Roche Diagnostics, Mannheim, Germany) instrument.
