We analyze reactive collisions of a single ${\mathrm{Ba}}^{+}$ ion in contact with an ultracold gas of Rb atoms at low three-body collision energies of 2.2(9) $\mathrm{mK}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{k}_{\mathrm{B}}$. Mapping out the ${\mathrm{Ba}}^{+}$ loss rate dependence on the Rb atom density we can discern two-body reactive collisions from three-body ones and determine both rate coefficients, which are ${k}_{2}=3.1(6)(6)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}13…

Long-range interaction of Li(2S2)−Li(2S2)−Li+(1S1)

The long-range interactions among two- or three-atom systems are of considerable importance in the cold and ultracold research areas for many-body systems. For an ion and an atom, the long-range

Spectral properties of a three-body atom-ion hybrid system

We consider a hybrid atom-ion system consisting of a pair of bosons interacting with a single ion in a quasi-one-dimensional trapping geometry. Building upon a model potential for the atom-ion

Life and death of a cold BaRb+ molecule inside an ultracold cloud of Rb atoms

We study the evolution of a single BaRb$^+$ molecule while it continuously collides with ultracold Rb atoms. The initially weakly-bound molecule can undergo a sequence of elastic, inelastic,

Cold atom-atom-anion three-body recombination of 4He4HexLi- (x = 6 or 7) systems.

Atom-atom-anion three-body recombination (TBR) in mixed 4He and xLi- (x = 6 or 7) is investigated in the adiabatic hyperspherical representation by quantum mechanically solving the Schrödinger

Photon-mediated charge exchange reactions between 39K atoms and 40Ca+ ions in a hybrid trap.

Experimental evidence of charge exchange between laser-cooled potassium 39K atoms and calcium 40Ca+ ions in a hybrid atom-ion trap and quantitative theoretical explanations for the observations are presented and concluded that these data can only be explained by a process that starts with a potassium atom in its electronic ground state and a calcium ion in its excited 4p 2P1/2 state.

Observation of Feshbach resonances between a single ion and ultracold atoms.

Feshbach resonances between ions and atoms are demonstrated, using magnetically tunable interactions between 138Ba+ ions and 6Li atoms, giving access to complex many-body systems and applications in experimental quantum simulation.

Cold atom-atom-ion three-body recombination of 4He-4He-X- (X = H or D).

The atom-atom-ion three-body recombination (TBR) of mixed 4He and X- (X = H or D) systems is investigated by solving the Schrödinger equation using the adiabatic hyperspherical representation method.

Single-shot energy measurement of a single atom and the direct reconstruction of its energy distribution

An ensemble of atoms in steady-state, whether in thermal equilibrium or not, has a well defined energy distribution. Since the energy of single atoms within the ensemble cannot be individually

Experimental apparatus for overlapping a ground-state cooled ion with ultracold atoms

Experimental realizations of charged ions and neutral atoms in overlapping traps are gaining increasing interest due to their wide research application ranging from chemistry at the quantum level to

Minimizing rf-induced excess micromotion of a trapped ion with the help of ultracold atoms

We report on the compensation of excess micromotion due to parasitic rf-electric fields in a Paul trap. The parasitic rf-electric fields stem from the Paul trap drive but cause excess micromotion,
