We analyze reactive collisions of a single ${\mathrm{Ba}}^{+}$ ion in contact with an ultracold gas of Rb atoms at low three-body collision energies of 2.2(9) $\mathrm{mK}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{k}_{\mathrm{B}}$. Mapping out the ${\mathrm{Ba}}^{+}$ loss rate dependence on the Rb atom density we can discern two-body reactive collisions from three-body ones and determine both rate coefficients, which are ${k}_{2}=3.1(6)(6)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}13… 16 Citations ## Figures from this paper • Physics, Materials Science • 2020 The long-range interactions among two- or three-atom systems are of considerable importance in the cold and ultracold research areas for many-body systems. Experimental evidence of charge exchange between laser-cooled potassium 39K atoms and calcium 40Ca+ ions in a hybrid atom-ion trap and quantitative theoretical explanations for the observations are presented and concluded that these data can only be explained by a process that starts with a potassium atom in its electronic ground state and a calcium ion in its excited 4p 2P1/2 state.

We report on the compensation of excess micromotion due to parasitic rf-electric fields in a Paul trap. The parasitic rf-electric fields stem from the Paul trap drive but cause excess micromotion,
