The excess seen in the diphoton channel at around 750 GeV by both ATLAS and CMS has caused a great deal of excitement in the particle physics community. However, there has recently been much discussion about uncertainties in the significance of the peak seen by the ATLAS experiment. In this note, we aim to estimate this significance using a range of possible parametrisations for the smooth diphoton background. We obtain a local significance close to that reported by ATLAS and further…

Precision tools and models to narrow in on the 750 GeV diphoton resonance
The hints for a new resonance at 750 GeV from ATLAS and CMS have triggered a significant amount of attention. Since the simplest extensions of the standard model cannot accommodate the observation,
Minimal dilaton model and the diphoton excess
In light of the recent 750 GeV diphoton excesses reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we investigate the possibility of explaining this excess using the minimal dilaton model. We find that
750 GeV diphotons and supersymmetric grand unification
A bstractWe investigate the 750 GeV diphoton excess in terms of supersymmetric models which preserve grand unification in the ultraviolet. We show that minimal extensions of the MSSM by a singlet and
Models of the LHC diphoton excesses valid up to the Planck scale
We discuss a possibility to explain the LHC diphoton excesses at 750 GeV by the new scalar X that couples to the gauge bosons through the loop of new massive particles with standard model charges. We
Resonant diphoton phenomenology simplified
A bstractA framework is proposed to describe resonant diphoton phenomenology at hadron colliders in full generality. It can be employed for a comprehensive model-independent interpretation of the
Features in the Standard Model diphoton background
We argue that electromagnetic decays of energetic unflavoured neutral mesons, notably $\eta$, mis-identified as single photons due to granularity of the electromagnetic calorimeter might create
Learning from a Higgs-like scalar resonance
Motivated by a di-photon anomaly observed by ATLAS and CMS we develop an SFitter analysis for a combined electroweak-Higgs sector, and a scalar portal at the LHC. The theoretical description is based
Topological Structure of the Vacuum, Cosmological Constant and Dark Energy
In this review we present a theory of cosmological constant and Dark Energy (DE), based on the topological structure of the vacuum. The Multiple Point Principle (MPP) is reviewed. It demonstrates the
