ABSTRACT We develop an improved phase calibration method of a reflective SLM using interferometry by employing novel phase masks. In the process, we definitively determine the actual maximum phase throw of our SLM which provides a recipe for users to verify supplier specifications. We generate optimised phase masks by using Iterative Fourier Transform Algorithm (IFTA) and compare their performance with global linear corrections in the look-up table (LUT) and find that the former perform with… Expand
Spatially Addressable Polarimetric Calibration of Reflective-Type Spatial Light Modulator Using Mueller–Stokes Polarimetry
Mueller–Stokes polarimetry is emerging as a prominent noninvasive imaging technique to study the structural characteristics of an anisotropic medium. Spatial light modulator (SLM) is a programmableExpand

Interferometric method for phase calibration in liquid crystal spatial light modulators using a self-generated diffraction-grating.
An auto-referenced interferometric method for calibrating phase modulation of parallel-aligned liquid crystal (PAL) spatial light modulators (SLM) is described, which uses the SLM itself to create a tilted plane wave and a reference wave which mutually interfere. Expand
Calibration of spatial light modulators suffering from spatially varying phase response.
Compared to conventional phase conversion methods, the proposed method increases the control of the trap intensities in HOT, and efficiently prevents the appearance of strong unwanted 0th order diffraction that commonly occurs in SLM systems. Expand
Multi-region phase calibration of liquid crystal SLM for holographic display.
The proposed multi-region calibration method is simpler and faster because of the reasonable regional division and lower calibration complexity and could be used for the calibration of various phase only or complex modulators with high space bandwidth product in the future. Expand
Characterization of the phase modulation property of a free-space electro-optic modulator by interframe intensity correlation matrix.
A simplified approach to characterize a phase modulator is proposed by investigating the performance of phase shifts from grabbed interferograms using the phase extraction method, and the interframe intensity correlation (IIC) matrix method is introduced. Expand
Spatially resolved phase-response calibration of liquid-crystal-based spatial light modulators.
Methods for measuring and compensating the nonlinear electro-optical effect of transmissive, parallel-aligned liquid crystal (LC)-based spatial light modulators (SLMs) are presented and the LC-SLM's experimental demonstration finally verifies the resultant improvement in holographic imaging. Expand
Optimisation of a low cost SLM for diffraction efficiency and ghost order suppression
Abstract Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) are a powerful tool in many optics laboratories, but due to the technology required for their fabrication, they are usually very expensive. Recently someExpand
Phase calibration and applications of a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator.
The phase-phase correlator permits sharper correlation peaks, better energy transmission, and higher discrimination than an amplitude-phase correlation, and the dynamic phase response is used to perform efficient kinoform recording. Expand
Review of iterative Fourier-transform algorithms for beam shaping applications
We present a comparison of some of the most used iterative Fourier transform algorithms (IFTA) for the design of continuous and multilevel diffractive optical elements (DOE). Our aim is to provideExpand
Phase shifting interferometry using a spatial light modulator to measure optical thin films.
The experimental interferograms and the thicknesses of the thin film steps were successfully quantified, proving that this method can be used to measure thin films by applying the PSI method only on the region occupied by them. Expand

Most spatial light modulators (SLMs) are limited in that they cannot produce arbitrary complex modulations. Because phase and amplitude are usually coupled, it is difficult to computer designExpand
