OBJECTIVE Mindfulness meditation has met increasing interest as a therapeutic strategy for anxiety disorders, but prior studies have been limited by methodological concerns, including a lack of an active comparison group. This is the first randomized, controlled trial comparing the manualized Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program with an active control for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), a disorder characterized by chronic worry and physiologic hyperarousal symptoms. Effects of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Symptomatic Generalized Anxiety Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial
TLDR
The data indicate that MBCT was effective in reducing anxiety symptoms in GAD patients, and the long-term benefits of CBT may be superior.
Comparison of the effectiveness of mindfulness based on stress reduction therapy and neurofeedback training on the clinical symptoms of individual with generalized anxiety disorder: A clinical trial study
TLDR
There was no significant difference between mindfulness based on stress reduction therapy and neurofeedback training in reducing the generalized anxiety disorder symptoms, worry, negative belief about worry and intolerance of uncertainty.
Mindfulness based cognitive therapy versus group psycho-education for people with generalized anxiety disorder: a randomized controlled trial
TLDR
Although both MBCT and PEG appear to be superior to usual care for the reduction of anxiety symptoms, although PEG has the additional benefits of reducing worry and depressive symptoms among people with GAD.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy v. group psychoeducation for people with generalised anxiety disorder: Randomised controlled trial
TLDR
These results suggest that both of the interventions appear to be superior to usual care for the reduction of anxiety symptoms.
Feasibility and Acceptability of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy Compared with Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction and Treatment as Usual in People with Depression and Cardiovascular Disorders: a Three-Arm Randomised Controlled Trial
TLDR
The adapted-MBCT intervention was feasible and acceptable to participants; however, certain aspects of the trial design were not and study recruitment procedures will need to be revised to recruit a target sample that optimally matches the adapted intervention.
A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Unipolar Depression in Patients With Chronic Pain.
TLDR
MBCT shows potential as a treatment for depression in individuals with chronic pain, but larger controlled trials are needed.
The effect of mindfulness meditation training on biological acute stress responses in generalized anxiety disorder
The Emerging Role of Mindfulness Meditation as Effective Self-Management Strategy, Part 1: Clinical Implications for Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Anxiety.
TLDR
MBIs are safe, portable, cost-effective, and can be recommended as an adjunct to standard care or self-management strategy for major depressive disorder and PTSD, and future large, well-designed randomized clinical trials in service members and veterans can help plan for the anticipated increase in demand for behavioral health services.

Effectiveness of a meditation-based stress reduction program in the treatment of anxiety disorders.
TLDR
A group mindfulness meditation training program can effectively reduce symptoms of anxiety and panic and can help maintain these reductions in patients with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, or panic disorder with agoraphobia.
Effectiveness of mindfulness‐based cognitive therapy as an adjuvant to pharmacotherapy in patients with panic disorder or generalized anxiety disorder
TLDR
Mindfulness‐based cognitive therapy may be effective at relieving anxiety and depressive symptoms in patients with panic disorder or generalized anxiety disorder, however, well‐designed, randomized controlled trials are needed.
The effect of mindfulness-based therapy on anxiety and depression: A meta-analytic review.
TLDR
Effect size estimates suggest that mindfulness-based therapy was moderately effective for improving anxiety and mood symptoms from pre- to posttreatment in the overall sample, and this intervention is a promising intervention for treating anxiety and Mood problems in clinical populations.
Meditation therapy for anxiety disorders.
TLDR
Transcendental meditation is comparable with other kinds of relaxation therapies in reducing anxiety, and Kundalini Yoga did not show significant effectiveness in treating obsessive-compulsive disorders compared with Relaxation/Meditation.
