Abstract Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in alkaline solution has been found to be effective in the extraction of radium-226 from uranium-mill final Pachuca solid discharge at Elliot Lake, Ontario. Under optimal conditions, 80–85% of the radium in the solids was extracted. These conditions (temperature, EDTA concentration, liquid to solid ratio, contact time) were considerably milder than those used in other studies.
