Radion stabilization is analyzed in 5-dimensional models with branes in the presence of Gauss-Bonnet interactions. The Goldberger-Wise mechanism is considered for static and inflating backgrounds. The necessary and sufficient conditions for stability are given for the static case. The influence of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the radion mass and the interbrane distance is analyzed and illustrated by numerical examples. The interplay between the radion stabilization and the cosmological constant…

k-stabilization in brane models
Stabilization of interbrane distance is analyzed in five-dimensional models with higher-order scalar kinetic terms. Equations of motion and boundary conditions for background and for scalar
Brane cosmology in the Horava-Witten heterotic M-theory on S1/Z2
We study the radion stability and radion mass in the framework of the Horava-Witten (HW) heterotic M-Theory on S1/Z2, and find that the radion is stable and its mass can be of the order of GeV. The
Casimir dark energy, stabilization of the extra dimensions and Gauss–Bonnet term
A Casimir dark energy model in a five-dimensional and a six-dimensional spacetime including non-relativistic matter and a Gauss–Bonnet term is investigated. The Casimir energy can play the role of
THE HIERARCHY PROBLEM, RADION MASS, LOCALIZATION OF GRAVITY AND 4D EFFECTIVE NEWTONIAN POTENTIAL IN STRING THEORY ON S1/Z2
In this paper, we present a systematical study of braneworlds of string theory on S1/Z2. In particular, starting with the toroidal compactification of the Neveu–Schwarz/Neveu–Schwarz sector in D + d
Late transient acceleration of the universe in string theory onS1/Z2
Recently, in Gong et al (2008 Phys. Lett. B 663 147 [arXiv:0711.1597]) and Wang and Santos (2007 arXiv:0712.3938) we showed that the effective cosmological constant on each of the two orbifold branes
Gauss-Bonnet Braneworld Redux: A Novel Scenario for the Bouncing Universe
We propose a new scenario for the bouncing universe in a simple five-dimensional braneworld model in the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, which works even with ordinary matter on the
Bulk photons in asymmetrically warped spacetimes and non-trivial vacuum refractive index
We consider asymmetrically warped brane models, or equivalently brane models where the background metric is characterized by different time and space warp factors. The main feature of these models is

Gauss-Bonnet brane cosmology with radion stabilization
We study cosmology in a five-dimensional brane-world with a stabilizing effective potential for the radion and matter localized on the two branes. We consider the corrections induced by the
Wave function of the radion in a brane world
We calculate the linearized metric perturbation corresponding to a massless four-dimensional scalar field, the radion, in a five-dimensional two-brane model of Randall and Sundrum. In this way we
Radion dynamics and electroweak physics
The dynamics of a stabilized radion in the Randall-Sundrum model with two branes is investigated, and the effects of the radion on electroweak precision observables are evaluated. The radius is
Generalized Israel junction conditions for a Gauss-Bonnet brane world
In spacetimes of dimension greater than four it is natural to consider higher order (in R) corrections to the Einstein equations. In this letter generalized Israel junction conditions for a membrane
Modulus stabilization with bulk fields
TLDR
A mechanism for stabilizing the size of the extra dimension in the Randall-Sundrum scenario is proposed and the minimum of this potential yields a compactification scale that solves the hierarchy problem without fine-tuning of parameters.
Goldberger-Wise variations: Stabilizing brane models with a bulk scalar
TLDR
One of the features that make the scenario so interesting is the presence of a single extra–dimension, that allows for a detailed – and not too complicated – analysis of the model and of its possible modifications.
