PURPOSE To investigate the relationship between radiolucent periapical lesions and bone mineral density in post-menopausal women. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seventy-five post-menopausal women were recruited for the study. Bone mineral density was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Three groups were established: healthy bone group, osteopenic group and osteoporotic group. Periapical radiolucencies were diagnosed on the basis of examination of digital panoramic radiographs. Relation between osteoporosis and radiographic and clinical signs of osteoarthritis/arthrosis in the temporomandibular joint: a population‐based, cross‐sectional study in an older Swedish population
TLDR
The prevalence of osteopenia/osteoporosis appears not to be of importance for radiological or clinical findings of OA in the TMJ.
Increased Plasma Osteocalcin, Oral Disease, and Altered Mandibular Bone Density in Postmenopausal Women
TLDR
Elevated plasma OCN, oral mucosal dryness, high number of periapical radiolucencies and missing teeth, and lower mandibular bone density from panoramic radiograph were prevalent in postmenopausal women and Dentists should suspect an increased risk of low bone mineral density in post menopausal patients who display these clinical and radiographic findings.
Prevalence of Apical Periodontitis in patients with Multiple Myeloma
TLDR
The presence of AP and endodontic treatment was not significantly different in individuals with MM compared with control subjects, and future studies are needed to elucidate and confirm the association between MM and AP.
Smoking and Radiolucent Periapical Lesions in Root Filled Teeth: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
TLDR
Moderate, quality scientific evidence indicates a weak but significant relationship between smoking and the prevalence of RPLs in RFT, which can be considered a negative prognostic factor for the outcome of root canal treatment.
Ultrasound Imaging versus Radiographs in Differentiating Periapical Lesions: A Systematic Review
TLDR
It is indicated that ultrasound is a better diagnostic tool to distinguish periapical lesions compared to radiographs but further studies with well-designed, rigorous protocols and low risk of bias are needed to provide stronger evidence.
The quality of root canal treatment and periapical status of permanent teeth in Turkish children and teens: a retrospective CBCT study.
TLDR
The prevalence of periapical radiolucencies in young permanent teeth showed an increase when the tooth was an incisor, had incomplete root development, or the root filling had technical errors.
Endodontics and diabetes: association versus causation
TLDR
The aim of this study was to analyse the difference between association and causation, applying the criteria of causality to the specific case of the association between endodontic disease and diabetes mellitus.
Apical periodontitis in southern Estonian population: prevalence and associations with quality of root canal fillings and coronal restorations
TLDR
AP is highly prevalent in Southern Estonian population and most cases are associated with root canal-treated teeth, consistent with the mediocre outcome of treatment.

Longitudinal Alveolar Bone Loss in Postmenopausal Osteoporotic/Osteopenic Women
TLDR
The data suggest that osteoporosis/osteopenia and estrogen deficiency are risk factors for alveolar bone density loss in postmenopausal women with a history of periodontitis.
Serum, saliva, and gingival crevicular fluid osteocalcin: their relation to periodontal status and bone mineral density in postmenopausal women.
TLDR
The results further support the concept that osteocalcin levels in GCF correlates with periodontal but not with osteoporosis status.
Clinical attachment loss, systemic bone density, and subgingival calculus in postmenopausal women.
TLDR
Evidence of an association between osteoporosis and one measure of periodontal disease severity, CAL is provided, and the strongest associations between systemic bone density and CAL among women without subgingival calculus are found.
The relationship between bone mineral density and periodontitis in postmenopausal women.
TLDR
It is concluded that skeletal BMD is related to interproximal alveolar bone loss and, to a lesser extent, to clinical attachment loss, implicating postmenopausal osteopenia as a risk indicator for periodontal disease in post menopause Caucasian women.

Bone densitometry of periapical lesions
TLDR
The aim of the work was to evaluate the bone density of chronic periapical lesions in the area of maxillary incisors and canines and correlation was proved with significative statistically results between lower densitometric values and osteolysis and radiolucency areas.

TLDR
The combination of mandibular indices, along with surveys on the risk of fracture, can be useful as indicators of early diagnosis of osteoporosis.
Association between periodontal disease and bone mineral density in postmenopausal women: a cross sectional study.
TLDR
Skeletal BMD is related to interproximal ABL and CAL, though not to a statistically significant level; implicating postmenopausal osteopenia as a risk indicator for periodontal disease.

TLDR
It may be included that, except for carious lesions, the panoramic radiographs can be considered a useful tool in epidemiological studies of oral health.
