Scrub typhus (tsutsugamushi disease), a chigger-borne rickettsial disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi (formerly called Rickettsia tsutsugamushi), is an acute febrile illness which prevails in eastern and southern Asia, northern Australia, and the islands of the Western Pacific region1.
