  • IN1RODUCTION: Colonic transit is accelerated in lactulose (LL) induced diarrhea; it is not clear whether this is simply due to an osmotic effect or is influenced by bacterial metabolism of LL. AIMs: To compare colonic transit induced by LL with that produced by PEG, an osmotically active, non metabolizable solute ("pure osmotic diarrhea").
