High-speed commercial flight transportation is being studied for intercontinental operations in the 21st century. The projected operational characteristics for these aircraft arc examined, the radiation environment as it is now known is presented, and the relevant health issues are discussed. Based on a critical examination of the data, a number of specific issues need to be addressed to ensure an adequate knowledge of the ionizing radiation health risks of these aircraft operations.
